Memories

My uncle Clifford passed away recently. We are attending a memorial service this weekend and I've created this piece of artwork for his daughter and family. Clifford was a farmer, a devoted family man, and as straightforward as they come. The world would be a better place with more honest, simple men like Clifford.

He was also hilarious, often without knowing it. Clifford had very poor hearing, which caused him to speak very loudly. Add that to his habit of saying whatever came off the top of his head... well let's just say it was always a treat to visit Uncle Clifford. My favorite story: quite a few years ago my family was enjoying supper at Clifford's home, prepared by his wife, my aunt Idabelle. She was the most genteel woman I've ever known, so proper and very beautiful. Someone at the table commented on how thin Idabelle had become, as she had been sick. Clifford joins the conversation by bellowing "you should see her NAKID!" Needless to say, there was a bit of an awkward pause.....

I'll miss my uncle Clifford.

Tresa, I'm so sorry for your loss. The world does need more men like your Uncle Clifford. What a precious anecdote about him and Aunt Idabelle (love those names!), and what beautiful framed art you've made for the family. They'll treasure it. Glad I found your blog. You're truly inspiring!

Tresa, I'm sorry for your loss. I, too, lost a loved one but we were coworkers. He was very much like Uncle Clifford ... but I have such sweet memories. Your artwork is beautiful and will be a treasure. Thanks for sharing the story and the artwork!
