How to Party... with a Kiss and a Twist

Saturday, March 29, 2008

This technique turned into a little "magic show" for me. I created this card for a Papercrafts special issue, Papercrafts 101, and they chose not to use this version. Don't feel sad, they just chose another one of my designs instead, and my step-out of the card they chose made the cover!

Back to this card, and the technique. I loved this ultra cool background paper, and since I seem to always be drawn to complementary color combos, I just had to use blue to offset that orange. SO... I ink up the Rustic Alpha letters in orange, then ink up the Adorable backgrounds swirl stamp in blue. Press the two stamps together and twist about 1/4 turn. Stamp the image and WHOA!!!! I created a new color... brown! I should have known this would happen, but not to this degree. It's like a danged magic trick, I tell ya!

I just have one of those faces

I wish I had a nickel for every time someone came up to me and said "you look just like my husband's cousin" or "did you go to college in (insert state here)?" I think it's because I'm very average looking, I must look like everyone. Gee, that would come in handy if I ever robbed a bank. "Can you describe the suspect, ma'm?" "Well, not really, she looked like someone I knew once but I just can't put my finger on it".

There is one person whom I get compared to all the time. I'll let you be the judge. Me and my celebrity look-alike.... were we separated at birth? What do you think?

Creative University wrap up

Saturday, March 15, 2008

My final post about Creative University! It's been fun sharing all the memories, and I'm excited for next year's Create U. Special thanks to Deanna Haggerty for some of the photos I featured, to Jenny Thompson for all her adminstative assistant duties, to my faculty for the amazing classes, to Lutherhaven guest services coordinator Elizabeth for her professional handling of all things CU, and to ALL my attendees, for their patience and enthusiasm for my first year of this BIG event!

And to all attendees for next year....

Creative University Charm Swap

Friday, March 14, 2008

Fifteen lucky participants in this swap, holey moley, what an amazing piece of artwork everyone ended up with!

The swap was a 2-parter. One charm could be just plain and simple, a few beads, maybe a dangle piece, that's it. The second charm unleashed the creative juices. Incorporate something from scrapbooking or papercrafting products, and make it wearable. Everyone's contributions were fabulous, don't you think?

Here is a close-up of the charms I created.

Creative University, Girls go to College to Get more Knowledge

Tuesday, March 11, 2008

I couldn't resist using that title, my daughters have this silly rhyme and it's a perfect fit for Create U! The classes made the retreat into a true learning experience. Snuggled up by a crackling stone fireplace, with views of the morning sun reflecting off the lake, the "classroom" was inspiring too!

Classes included paint techniques, stitching on paper, card kit ideas and more! Everyone came away from the classes ready to try out their new skills and techniques, and the classes had great attendance. Prizes and drawings made the classes even more fun.

Creative University, You better bring it!

Day one of Creative U was an optional early arrival, and the whole day was a "free day" with no scheduled activities. Since there was lots of free time to scrap throughout the weekend, and most of us own enough product to fill a small barn, we all got our exercise for the day just hauling in the supplies. Honestly, do we really need all this stuff? Ummm... YEAH!

Welcome Bags and Teacher Totes

Sunday, March 9, 2008

Made these cute little fabric bags for all the attendees of Creative University. Yes, I'm insane. I should post a tutorial on how to make them, they turned out great, and they're really pretty simple (unless you need to make 25 of them!)

I also made tote bags for my Create U teachers, to thank them for all their hard work. The classes were awesome!

Creative University

Friday, March 7, 2008

I did it! The event that's been almost a year in planning finally came together.

The concept of mixing "Inspiration, Education and Relaxation" was the driving force for me to create something that was more than just a scrap camp. There were creative classes, lots of free scrap time and make-and-takes. New friendships, late night giggles and tons of junk food. The masseuse was amazing, and very popular with a fully booked schedule. The classes were inspiring, I am forever grateful to my "faculty" for all their time and talent.

Want to see more? Keep checking back, I'm going to post daily for a while, recapping the highlights of Creative University.
