I'm not procrastinating, I'm incubating

Tuesday, August 3, 2010

I'm trying to come to grips with my to-do list. Ever have a stretch of time where you can't seem to get anything finished? That's me, right now. I have a million projects I want to do (like re-vamping my blog, shooting more youtube videos, finally organizing the kid's toys and clothes), and I think I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. Or perhaps I'm lacking direction. But I'm not going to beat myself up too much. Since it's summertime and the kids are home, I'm just enjoying the spontaneous events and unscheduled "what should we do today" days. Besides, I read an article about people who think they are procrastinators but actually they are considered "incubators". They need a stretch of free time to goof off and relax while they mentally are preparing for the big rush to finish something. Yeah, that's me. I'm incubating. The experts say so.

And while you're incubating, you can do things like dress up the dog. It's all part of the master plan.

Wow! I really needed to hear this today. Nice to know I'm not the only one incubating. :0) I'm off to mentally prepare for the big rush to finish something! Have a great day!

OK, I definitely like the idea of "incubating" versus procrastinating! I too have lacked direction this summer and always seem to have unfinished projects. At least I've gotten SOME projects finished, and we've had lots of fun too. Good luck with your projects!

Oh, so that is the term being stammped on my forehead now! I hope there are no hot lights involved in my "incubation" time!

Hunh. I was feeling really good about being an incubator (wait--that doesn't sound quite right) until you got to the part where it was done when you're finishing up a big project. Um, what if you procrastinate on a daily basis all year round? :P

Dressing up doggy is a great thing to do when you're bored! Or when you're simply avoiding cleaning out a closet.

I feel much as an "incubator". BTW is that a Jack Russell Terrier? I have one and he would never allow me to dress him up! FUNNY!

I always thought of myself as a ruminate-r, but that is so very bovine. Incubator is so very poultry. Guess I'm destined to be a farm girl in my fertile mind and that is so arable. Guess I'm bound to crop with the arable minds, ruminate-rs and incubators.

You've just validated a whole life of procrastination. And I've always contended that I work better under pressure, but I like incubating better, makes me feel more productive - even when I'm slacking:)
