Whatever Wednesday: Not Couch Potatoes

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

I resisted getting a video game system for years, because my kids spend enough time glued to the TV or playing games on the computer. I didn’t want them sitting on their butts moving nothing but their thumbs on a gaming system. But now there’s Kinect…

Oh. My. Heck. I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun this motion sensor thing is. It’s different than the other motion games, you don’t hold anything, you ARE the controller. It’s absolutely amazing how it sees your movements and, depending on the game, puts you into the screen. You definitely have to get your whole body involved. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves…

Look at her hair. It’s horizontal. Gift bags on the floor keep her from moving too close to the screen. Creative solution at work.

Plugging leaks at the bottom of the sea.

Here’s what my son, in the picture above, sees on the screen. His “avatar” is transparent, so he can see the holes that the fish make in the glass, then he plugs them with his hands, feet and head.

And my favorite picture….

Definitely NOT a couch potato.

We absolutely LOVE ours! My hubby has had an xbox forever, but I made him get the Kinect last month, and we have all enjoyed playing the games! Awesome family time!

We got my son kinectimals and I was slightly skeptical when we got it as to how much movin and grovin he would actually be doing. He has to run, jump, leap, throw pretend balls, kick pretend balls... It's not a couch potato game at all. Love the kinect :)

You should totally try Dance Central.. It's fun :) I can't play it much since I'm high risk pregnant and all but it's still so much fun!

My kids played this at my in-law's the other day and it looked like so much fun! At our house, we've been getting some good exercise with Wii Just Dance for Kids.

I finally went the gaming way with Kinect also, this Christmas. I'm surprised at what a work out you can get. My kids KMA in boxing; table tennis (ping pong) and bowling. It is just so much darned fun to watch them and play, too.

We love Kinect! Technology is amazing isn't it! The random pictures it shows on the screen at the end are hilarious. Kinect can be dangerous though! In the first week I rolled my ankle and threw out my shoulder. The best part was the picture it captured at the end of the game was me going down grasping desperately at my arm!!!
