I have a confession. When I first received the La Belle Vie paper pack, I didn’t see the potential right away. The new limited edition colors La Belle Vie Mauve and La Belle Vie pink didn’t jump out and say “create something awesome!” I think it may have been that I’m old enough to remember the 80’s and the mauve couch and matching lazy boy recliner in my parent’s home.
But then I saw the gears shapes on the new Close to My Heart Cricut Artiste cartridge (available Aug. 1) and I thought…. STEAMPUNK victorian! How perfect. This family is crazy for steampunk.
There are several gear shapes on this cartridge, for layering and mixing. I cut them from assorted shades of black and grey (below). I added gold and silver embossing powder to some, in varying amounts, then distressed the embossed shapes with the new CTMH black pigment inks.
I changed the color of the Keepsake Felt Alphabet by covering in silver embossing powder and heating just until it began to melt, so it left a rough texture to the letters (below).
Don’t you love that dress form (above)? Another shape on the Cricut Artiste cartridge! The butterfly wings are on the La Belle Vie My Stickease assortment.
I wanted the page to remain a bit “girly” for my teen daughter, who is crazy about all things steampunk, so in addition to the dress form and crown, I added a ruffle (below) made from the new Black Tulle Ribbon.
This new ribbon is WIDE! You get 10 yards of 3” black tulle ribbon for just $5.95. I folded it in half, stitched along the folded edge with my sewing machine (hand stitching is fine too), and pulled to gather. Tons of dimension in just 24” of ribbon!
Once I got past my mauve prejudice, I’m seeing so much more creative opportunities with the La Belle Vie paper pack. Elegant, sophisticated or yes… funky, it’s all possible with the right choice of accessories!
