Oldies but goodies. Sometimes it’s hard to let go.
As we get closer to the release of the Close to My Heart Spring/Summer 2014 catalog, I’m so excited to show off all the new papers, stamps and accessories. The new catalog is one of the best I’ve seen in a while. You’ll love the colors and styles, plus there are a few fabulous new product lines!
While waiting to show off new art, I have to pull out some favorites, even when they are retired. I used Pear & Partridge Christmas paper and one of my “I’ll never sell this one” stamp sets, A Tweet.
I inked up the bird with the Honey inkpad, then rolled the upper part of the stamp in Desert Sand inkpad. Love that two toned look! A bit of glitter on the tree branches and a sparkle eye for my birdie add a little shine to the otherwise rustic look.
Mixing old with new always works for me. How about you? Do you have some old favorites? Leave a comment and tell me what’s that one thing you’ll never part with.
Can’t wait to see the new catalog? Purchase it now, with a $5 coupon toward your first order!

Are you still on the fence about attending Creative University? It’s less than a month away and I have just a few spots available.
Way back in December I started a countdown of the top ten reasons to attend Creative University, posting one reason at a time. Well, guess what? I’m going to finish up strong and post the last 5 reasons right now!
Reason #6: FRIENDSHIPS
There is something about CU that brings people together and forms strong bonds that last long past the weekend itself. One of my goals when I planned the very first Creative University was to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere that helped the students bond together. I dislike attending retreats that don’t encourage mingling and getting to know each other.
Whether you want to attend with a group of friends and family members who love scrapping and creating as much as you do, or if you come alone, you are welcome here. Who knows, you might meet your next best friend at Create U 2014!
Reason #7: Location, Location, Location
I’ve already counted the benefit of the natural setting at Camp Lutherhaven, the location of Creative University. But you’ll also love the INSIDE of our retreat.
Separate buildings for crafting, sleeping and eating, located just a quick walk from each other. Early birds and night owls both can enjoy their own schedule without worrying about disturbing others.
Fireplaces for cozy warmth in the public spaces with rocking chairs or cushy sofas and armchairs to curl up with a book or knitting. A beautiful dining hall with timber ceilings and huge stone fireplace.
Sleeping quarters are shared with 4 to 6 friends, each room contains their own bathroom. No outhouses in this camp!
Reason #8: Fantastic Price
Create U has always been an affordable option for an all-inclusive event. For one price you get everything from food to lodging to classes and materials.
This year only you have the option to customize your tuition. Every attendee will be able to attend a Creative Class for no charge, but you can also add on any or all of the three additional Creative Classes. Make cards, learn new papercrafting techniques, create a mini album and more!
For less than $200 you can be creating at CU!
Reason #9: Hangin’ Out with the Stamp Goddess
Creative University is your chance to rub elbows with some amazing women. From the teachers to the students, there is so much creative mojo at CU you’re guaranteed to go home brimming with new ideas for your artwork.
If you have always wanted to take a class with me, now’s your chance. This year I am personally designing all of the Creative Class projects, and I’ll be teaching two of the classes with the help of my fantastic teaching staff.
Reason #10: Time’s almost up!
Registration time is almost over, and there is only room for a few more lucky attendees to claim the last spots. I’ll be closing down the registration page on January 20th, or sooner if I sell out. Don’t miss out, register today!
This is a final post in a series of the Top 10 Reasons to Attend Creative University. Click on the links below to view other posts.

Yeah, I was rockin’ the early 80’s punk look. I even designed and created the dress myself. I think I must have used half a can of aqua-net on my hair to get that perfect cotton-candy ‘do!

Happy new year! Are you making resolutions and goals for the upcoming year? I always do, and they’re usually the same ol’ thing – exercise more, eat less, spend less time online, blah blah blah.
I love the idea of choosing One Little Word to define and guide you through your year. The incredibly talented scrapbook and design guru, Ali Edwards, is the genius behind the One Little Word movement.
I have adopted a single word in years past, but last year I didn’t. Looking back at 2013, I found myself learning, growing, and taking care of family and self. I strived to step back and take stock of what’s important. I took some time to explore some new passions and pursuits. I didn’t have an official word of 2013, but I would say that “Release” was my defining word for the past year. I let go of a lot of expectations and commitments, and feel lighter because of it.
Now it’s 2014, a brand new shiny year full of possibilities. I’ve already chosen my word for this year….
I love this word so much. It’s an active word, it’s outgoing, it speaks of stepping forward and being present. After looking inward for a while, I feel excited to try some daring choices and make new connections.
Engage is a word with many definitions in the dictionary. Here are a few of my favorite entries:
to get and keep (someone's attention, interest, etc.)
to offer (as one's word) as security for a debt or cause
to bring together or interlock
to bind (as oneself) to do something
to provide occupation for (involve)
to induce to participate
to deal with especially at length
Now it’s your turn! Leave a comment below and tell me what word you would choose for 2014. I hope you’ve found this post engaging!
