Almost There!

Getting ready for convention is always my most creative time, and yet my poor blog tends to look abandoned. If you’ve been missing my posts, I’ll be able to start sharing all the awesome new products and artwork that I’ve been creating over the past couple of months. Hang in there!

Last year my extravaganza class product was the My Crush books, and I had a blast creating with them. They’re great for quick and easy informal scrapbooking, but also a wonderful source of paper for other projects like cards, scrapbook pages and gifts.

Here are a few of my creations from the My Crush extravaganza class last year:

As always, extravaganza teachers can’t share anything about our new products we receive for this year’s class. So you’ll have to wait for a bit to see my newest artwork. The big reveal at convention is just a week away, so you won’t have too much longer to wait!

Stamping with Tape

Thursday, June 18, 2015

big hug

Call it vintage, distressed or shabby chic, the imperfect look is here to stay. When stamping a sentiment or focal point, instead of using a neat and tidy block of colored cardstock, try using a swipe of inky color as a background.

You can stamp your stroke of color using Close to My Heart’s Brushstrokes stamp set, or use a sponge or paintbrush and an inkpad to create the look.

Another way to create a custom-sized swatch of color is by stamping with tape. I love this technique because it can be any size and it creates a perfectly “imperfect” look. Each impression will be slightly different and it gives you a slightly distressed image that works with many different styles, from modern to vintage.

inky tape

Begin by tearing a strip of painter’s tape or masking tape. You can choose any length, although the long strips can be tricky to work with. Press the tape sticky side down onto an inkpad, using your fingertips to get the ink to transfer to the tape.

inky tape2

Next, position the tape onto your cardstock and lightly run your fingers over the tape. Depending on your tape color, you may be able to see the ink transfer. Watch for inky fingertips on your cardstock (you may want to have a baby wipe handy for cleaning fingers before pressing the ink onto the cardstock).

Don’t worry about getting every bit of ink transferred, this is where the imperfect part works for you.

inky tape3

Carefully remove the tape from your cardstock. I sometimes use the tip of my scissors or my craft knife to lift the corner of the tape first, if the edges won’t come up easily.

Now all you need to do is stamp your sentiment or focal point stamp over your inky stripe! This technique also works to create backgrounds and stripes.
